A 14kg dead python in a garbage bin was an unusual scene for Clackmannanshire Council workers just before Christmas.

The 2 metre-long snake was thought to have been kept as a pet, then dumped inside the green bin by its owner after it died.

“The death of pets is inevitable but this is the first time our workers have found such a large snake and it really gave them quite a surprise.” Councilor Eddie Carrick said. He also said that the incident demonstrates positive development of the government’s green project.

The workers were emptying the bins and checking for recyclable materials as part of the council’s waste analysis project when they made the discovery.

There have been calls in Ireland to create laws regulating exotic pets.
